Meter is decimal systems of weights in International Systems. Another definition of meter is the length of a pendulum having a half-period of one second. Then, the meter was intended to equal one ten-millionth of the length of meridian through Paris from pole to equator.
How does meter invented?
First time, meter was chosen by The French Academy of Sciences in 1791 based on the meter and the kilogram. After that, on 1799, the originally intended to be one ten-millionth od the length of the earth's. And years by years, meter also changes in definition. And finally on October 20, 1983 the meter was redefined again. The definition states that meter means the length of the path traveled by light in vacuum during a time interval of 1/299,792,458 of a second. So, it means the speed of lights is
c = 299,792,458 m/s.
